Cllr Gearóid Buckley has welcomed the news that Cork Institute of Technology are to offer the first ever Cloud Computing course.

‘This is fantastic news as Cloud Computing is the future of IT development. Experts say that it could employ 8,500 people and bring in €9.5billion by 2014.

‘It is this forward and innovative thinking that will get us out of this recession. As a previous board of management member of the Institute, I have seen at first hand the trojan work that goes into developing new modules and courses. Both staff and management should be applauded for their dedication and hard work.

‘As there is no other accredited qualification on Cloud Computing, this course will prove vital in preparing graduates to lead the next generation of IT development on the world wide stage.

‘Cloud computing is the future, not just as an industry but in the way we live our lives, and can be a stepping stone in developing Ireland as the World IT Specialists. The arrival of Google and now Marketo prove that we have the skilled workforce and infrastructure to accommodate EU headquarters for the world’s biggest brands.

‘I believe this new course is the foundation for many more Multi National arrivals.’
