Following a commitment given by the Minister of State at the Office of Public Works, Dr. Martin Manseragh, the Mayor of Bandon, Gearóid Buckley has welcomed the announcement that €10 million has been allocated for the much needed flood relief works in Bandon.

Mayor Buckley said, ‘This announcement is fantastic news for the townspeople of Bandon. The recent floods caused massive devastation and highlighted the need for major works to be carried out. While these works will not be completed for three years, this allocation has to be welcomed.

‘It is widely accepted that much of the problems in Bandon have been caused by bad planning. If we engineered our way into this problem it surely follows that we can engineer our way out of it.

‘I hope that this funding is the first step in making Bandon a safe place to live work and do business again. I hope that it is also a sign of a new commitment by Government toward Bandon and that the town will receive the priority it deserves going forward.

‘I would like to thank all the traders and residents of the town who came together in a massive show of community effort over the past few months. I would also like to thank Noel O’Keeffe, the Town Engineer and the Council Staff for their help and support for the town.’
