Cllr. Gearóid Buckley has applauded his Labour Party Collegues for selecting Michael D. to contest the upcoming Presidential Election.

‘It is fantastic that Michael D Higgins has been selected. The Bandon branch were one of the first Labour Party branches in the country to nominate Michael D. Subseqeuntly the Cork South West Constituency Council also endorsed Michael D.

‘We look forward to an energetic and purposeful campaign. Michael D has visited West Cork on two occasions in the past month. speaking to a full house at the Munster Arms Hotel Bandon he called on the people to work together to create a real Republic that will be founded on a ‘radical and inclusive citizenship’.

‘In a political career that has spanned over four decades, Michael D. has inspired many Irishmen and women to work for a better Ireland. His views are as thought-provoking today as they were when he was first elected to the Oireachtas. His vision of Ireland and the Republic is of a place where everyone can meaningfully and purposefully participate in a society that promotes equality, solidarity, sustainability, dignity and fairness.
